Fuck it, do it. If your gonna scrap it otherwise. The way I see it, your keeping another e30 on the road...
I used to be way against unorthodox swaps but it doesn't bother me anymore.
Are we talking the setup that's in the Saab 900? I can see that working because its a longitudinal front wheel drive setup. The later Saabs were transverse and I don't see that fitting in the e30 engine bay.
Make some stub shafts out of old axles for the rear wheel bearings so they don't come apart!
Just one of those wild hair ideas that will not likely occur, but I drove a 9000 turbo back in the day that would rip your hand off if you were not careful. Thought a FWD with a powerful 16V engine might be a fun change-up. Weight should be pretty low as well.
Will probably end up welding RWD strut towers into it.
Might as well..had an old Audi 100 that had a pretty standard Quattro drivetrain..plenty in the junkyard...but still how much money you want to spend on custom driveshaft etc..
Oh, you know what a terrible reputation vintage Saabs have as snow cars. They could barely move in the VT and NH winters - LOL. I think they were built in North Dakota or Siberia or some other really cold place? I heard Nokian tires were terrible too...
