Does anyone know of a good way to keep the axle from spinning while you remove the 30mm nut?

Ahhh, axle nuts are off. I've read the both the front halfshaft removal and front diff. removal section over on the iX registry, and I don't entirely understand how the shafts come out of the diff. I've got them out of the hubs, but do I actually need that BMW special tool to get it out of the diff? Or is there a generic tool that will do the same. I imagine it's some kind of puller. I called the dealer and they say that the part # comes up with nothing.

When i did mine i also put RTV to help seal the boots to the axles. when you put the the 30mm nut back on you want it pretty much as tight as you can get it.
