do you really think this would look better with 1" of fender gap in the rear?

It isn't about that "gap" (and yes I do, I think "tuck" looks stupid, but hear me out) it is about the shape of the wheelwell.

      Does that make sense?

Show that car from the rear quarter. You will see what I mean.

nope, don't see what you mean.. I don't really have "tuck" either. I think there's even junk in my trunk (literally) in that picture. lol

          yes. ;)

looks like you're butt is sagging. no offense though, nando. think i remember your car from this year's picnic. hot, man. hot.

if you don't look at the shape of the arch itself like luke is talking about, but the overall affect is has on the car, it looks to me like back is squatting or sagging. which, if it was accelerating hard from a standstill might be the case. so to me, late cars always look like they're taking off, and fast.

i like my diving boards and early arches, and tails. but damn if i don't love plastics and the fast looking rear arches too.

This. I have an 84 and an 88 and I still prefer everything about the late models.

              Example of the shape problem

Probably the main issue with late arches, although I wouldnt mind them being a bit higher either...

I love euro early models. the U.S. ones r kinda crap.

As for what i would own is late models. I have had a bunch and don't plan on gettin rid of my current one.

Early arches look better. Symmetry is key if you have OCD, or like not having a droopy rear end. The early tails look more euro, the late tails look more volvoey or japanese, like an fc or a 90s accord. Plastic bumpers look more refined, but the rest of the world got better bumpers than the united states, and I'd take euro bumpers over plastics any day. The extra shine of the window metals looks nice with the kidneys too, painting it is kinda blasphemy in my book, it's what makes the BMW a BMW, why hide it? Just swap the interior chrome out for black (chrome belongs on the exterior), euro bumpers, bam. Beautiful. Slam it, no rake needed. Done.

The primary reason I think early models look better, despite the obnoxious front heavy look of the iS valence front (i own an 87 iS), is that the late model tails are absolutely HIDEOUS. No character. Early models with euro bumpers and early models with plastic bumper conversion FTW. and to dinanm3atl, your car is the only 88 DB iS I've seen and liked.

I own one of each, and both styles have their own charms, I think the argument that one is "better" than the other is foolish.

anyone who disagrees is dumb. (see what I did there?)

early looks pretty classy with Euro bumps, and a late looks hot when propperly dropped (not that I have done either of these things with my cars). but opinions are just that, and there are many different ones.

I enjoy e30's regardless of body style, as long as they are done right.
