Anyone else have a "closed" kidney?

When I bought the car I assumed it was some knock off but I just checked my kidneys and they have a BMW logo on them and a part number. The weird part is they are not open in between the vertical lines. Doesn't make sense to me but it's there. Anyone else have this?

I have these. Never seen another one. I was told by the PO that they were winter kidneys and very rare. I couldn't even find any others online.

Could be that the kidney came from a car with cold weather package?

Wonder if it's something more common in Europe?

I've never seen one of these here in Canada.
