Protip: always wear a full face helmet when removing an E30 shift knob.

even more pro tip: easiest to remove without hitting face when in second gear.

Ha, I once hit a rear seat passenger in the face with the knob while shifting into second. Or maybe it was forth. Cool story either way.

Hold knob in right hand, Spin car with left.

Mine broke off just below the knob, sawed it off square, threaded shaft 5/8 coarse,

drilled and tapped 8 ball, now custom short shift, ball is perfect size.

When I first got my car the shift knob was broken and I didn't know. On the way home it came off when I shifted into second and it scared me half to death.

Then how are you supposed to see what you are doing? You need to stare directly down at the H pattern to make sure both hands are gripping the knob symmetrically.
