Replacing cracked dash with cracked dash?

So the dash in my car looks like the typical e30 dash, full of cracks from left to right. I've been watching craigslist for awhile now with no luck of anything popping up. Recently a dash came up for $50 with one decent sized crack towards the passenger side. Now after reading about the removal of the dash and how long it takes to remove and reinstall, if you were in my position would you go through with it or hold out for a crackless dash? As much as I'd like to continue my search I'm losing hope that one will pop up locally.

If I were in your position I would not invest the time, effort, and probably frustration to end up with anything but a crack-free dash.

Yeah that seems like a lot of work for something that you probably won't be fully satisfied with.

If it were free sure it may be worth your time, otherwise I'd wait for a decent one to pop up or have the dash wrapped or invest in a dash cap.

or spend that $50 and a bunch of your time trying to fix that crack. At least another $20 in supplies. Give up fixing it properly. Wrap it in a thin imitation suede fabic. Give up halfway through because it's not coming out right. Have the half finished project sit in your base for 3 years. Move it every time you need that thing behind it and sigh heavily when you put it back. Eventually throw it out.

I'd pay for a professional leather/fauxleather wrap job with stitching of choice

You can still buy dashes new, but they're like $800..... but they'll never crack. Flocking is also always a cheap solution.

I agree on dashmats looking terrible. At least a cap is form fitted plastic... So its a bit better I'd say. But I wonder, how are you going to fix your dash with it still in the car?

Those caps (or at least the ones I've seen in person) are actually pretty decent looking. They wrap far enough down that it is somewhat hard to notice it is a cap.

Hmm. They're not so bad. The only thing I wish they could develop is a cover that goes down around the HVAC panel, eliminating the crease... But ah, beggers can't be choosers, and I suppose it would make it more complicated

A lot easier then removing Dash and replacing it with another dash that will crack soon I am liking this Dash cover idea
