I used 3M Super Trim Adhesive, pn 08090 and I followed the instructions - 3 coats on each side, and waited about 10 minutes to attach everything. Seems to be holding up well - I had to remove the side windows to reinstall the shadowline and the glued-on headliner stayed right where it was supposed to.

ahhh...the old '3M Fast tack' relabeled as 'Trim Adhesive'...we used to use that stuff as adhesive on tubular bicycle tires :D

      thanks for the info man!

Your best bet for having it installed by someone else is taking it to an upulstery shop that specializes in classic cars. Every Ford,Chevy and Dodge built in the 50's and 60's had a similar headliner.

My car was a sunroof car until recently. I am going to buy a headliner from a non sunroof car and install it. How hard will this be and does anyone have some removal and install tips?

Sennafan: It's a PITA. Really. Not difficult, but time consuming. I've never seen a non-sunroof headliner, so not much help from me!

As promised, oh-so-long-ago, completed pics. Still not 100% happy with it, but it looks pretty good and I am overall pleased. The sunroof liner fit is very tight - it took me a lot of swearing and multiple attempts to get the liner reattached to the rear of the sunroof lid. The material is not too thick, but definitely much thicker than the OE material. I think it needs some time to wear in, but it makes the sunroof noticeably stiffer to open.

Make sure before you seal it up around the rear windows that you ensure that your Jesus handle mounts are in place - I had to do some fishing through the finished headliner to position one of the mounts back in place. They have two locating tabs that hold them in place, and one of mine was broken - which I should have noticed; I think I actually did notice it, but then I forgot to fix it before gluing everything up and reinstalling the rear windows. Once you get it all apart you'll see what I am talking about. And this is an excellent opportunity to replace the domelight mounts, which I was going to do, but mine were uncracked so I left them alone.

Also, watch the corners where it wraps up around the sunroof hole - it's easy to cut them too short and wind up with exposed edges.

So, so far the 3M is the best glue to use? I wouldnt want it to sag over time. I just did my sunroof panel, and when I get my car back I plan on doing the rest.

Best? Fuck no, not even sorta kinda close.

I have done several headliners. ALL of them suck at best.

Glue? DAP brand Landau Top Adhesive, in a $10 spray gun, straight out of the can.

Oh yeah, it comes in 1 gallon too, but I use about 4 gallons a month, so a 5er works for me.

Personally, I want a more modern style of headliner. I want to make a fiberglass mold of the roof of my car, trim it to fit inside the car, thencover it in the nice padded almost velour kinda stuff favored by damn near every car maker out there, including BMW.

So, if you gotta, do the 3M...but I would never ever consider it.

                HTH,
                Luke

yep the dap weldwood landau top is the same thing I use. You can peel the 3m stuff off very easily, the glue is very thin. If you want to DIY it, then yes people use 3m. If you want to make it so it is professional standard, then the spray can stuff is not even in the same ball park. Its like shooting ducks with a hand pistol... you can do it... but it will be far from being the right thing.

Can I get that at like Home Depot, or is that really hard to find?

Scratch that, they dont carry it.

I found some online. Is this good? One QT should be enough correct?

well I got it done just now and I feel it came out pretty good. He charged me $100.00 to install it, and he fixed the sunroof that I did.

Do you have any pictures? $100 seems like an incredible deal/ Did you go black fabric? Suede? And where did you source the headliner? You bought it pre-made and he just installed it correct?

Seems like a great way to update the interior of any e30, esp if it is saggy. Luckily I dont have to worry about sagging headliners, or any headliner at all. I already have a black one, although I do have to see all of the metal bars and hardware that make up the e30 convertible top.
My e30 and e28 are both up for sale::
