To those comments about pulling way too hard when you shift, I think the issue is a lot of people pull upwards slightly and the plastic in the older knobs gets brittle after awhile. I had the issue with my knob because there is something wrong with my synchros to the point where sometimes I don't have second gear unless I give the lever a hard tug.

I think I have a zhp, but its all brushed aluminum from BMW... Its a bit heavy and attaches just like a normal bmw knob hasn't fallen off. Shorten your throw, and stop pulling up when you shift. Any new bmw knob will be snugger.Yours truly,
Rich

I have this knob paired with a B&M short shifter (installed by the previous owner) in my '87 325iS. I have personally tried a couple of Z3 levers and UUC EVO III short shifters, much to my amazement the B&M setup with this knob is the best feeling and smoothest shifting of all of them.
The knob on mine is wearing, so I will be purchasing another one soon. Yes, it stands fairly tall and might not be the prettiest one out there, but the feel is great.
The ZHP knob is nice too-never tried one in an E30, but I did once own an '05 ZHP.Eric Giles
