    turn signal stalk variants

There are 3 different types of turn signals stalks depending on the vehicle
    - no airbag, no obc
    - with airbag, no obc
    - with obc, no airbag

can i take one meant for car with airbag and obc and just discard those connectors?

Air/non-air has a different bend to accommodate for the different distance from stalk to steering wheel which is the only reason why they have a different p/n. Wiring/pinout is the same.

OBC stalk vs non you can just leave the blue OBC connector unplugged and it doesn't hurt anything.

The stalk for the 13 button OBC also pushes in at the end to control the OBC remotely from the stalk

That doesnt sound like an issue.

What about the airbag what’s the significance?

The airbag stalk just pushes the stalk further towards the driver IIRC versus the non airbag unit. IMO, both are liveable stalk positions swapped in to any other configuration. As Bob said, you can bend the metal stalk to reconfigure the position of the interface if desired.

More of a fun fact. I didn’t know it controlled the OBC until I had to replace mine.

digger i can see you are in oz, did we get airbag e30s? I didn't think we did.

I put the "wrong one" on mine as a replacement a few yrs ago, sits about 1/2" further towards the dash than my old one. I bought it unknowing. I'm wondering if its e30 at all, wouldn't suprise me if e28 or simliar vintage i the same part as well. Kind of annoying at first but you get used to anything.

Turn signal stalks are shared between E30 & E24

                  ---

Summary for future humans coming across this in a search when we're all dead:

All of the E30 stalks are technically interchangeable despite the difference in bend and OBC function.

13 button OBC stalks used in a 6 button car you just leave the blue connector unplugged as there's nothing to connect it to on a 6 button OBC car or a car with factory euro clock or 84-85 clock as it doesn't have a 13 button OBC harness. Stalk clicks in on the end, so that function won't work obviously.

Airbag stalk on non-air car puts stalk closer to steering wheel.

Non-air stalk on airbag car helps push the stalk further back which is helpful if you have added a non-air steering wheel to your airbag car.

P/Ns in case realOEM goes away:

Airbag, 6 button OBC. End doesn't click in for OBC control, no blue single wire connector for OBC function, bent closer to driver: 61311377077, $200ish new

Airbag, 13 button OBC. End clicks in for OBC control, blue single wire connector for OBC function, bent closer to driver: 61311377966, back ordered

Non-Air, 6 button OBC. End doesn't click in for OBC control, no blue single wire connector for OBC function, bent further from driver: 61311373025, NLA

Non-Air, 13 button OBC. End clicks in for OBC control, blue single wire connector for OBC function, bent further from driver: 61311375190, $400ish new

looks like RHD and LHD are different or atleast the P/N for my serial are different

Silver lining maybe some of the rhd variants are still available affordably compared to the LHD stalks?

I always assumed they were the same because so many folks overseas retrofit 13 button OBCs and cruise with USD parts, the more ya know
