I used to be into all that stuff, but then I realized how much it doesn't fucking matter. I'm still using the stock speakers, although they're rewired to a cheap blaupunkt MP3 deck.

The alpine option sounds cool, but the aux input is probably fine. although it would be safer to control the ipod from the stereo than it would be to fiddle with the ipod while you're driving down the road.

I just got an iPod as well.

I'm looking at getting an Alpine 7894. Not sure if that will interface with the Alpine iPod interface cable or not though.

I find that the sound of my engine and muffler are a lot better than stressing over some stupid compression rate and the proper EQ curves for my custom ported box matched to the uber trick components.

 this is about an ipod being implemented to work with the stereo, not "what do you listen to when you get in the car"

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a iPod with all my 320 MP3's on it. However.... I can hear every single itty bitty compression artifact.

                  iTrip

If you are going to be listening to 192 mp3's the iTrip will sound just fine. You said yourself you're not an audio-phile and I've listened to the iPod iTrip combo and on the stock stero you wont notice a real difference over just a normal burned mix cd, but if you are set on spending money just so you can hear the compression artifacts feel free.

Anyone that thinks any bitrate MP3 compares to CD quality is ignorant
Somepeople can hear it some can't. It also depends on what system it is being played on and the enviroment it's being listened in.

Be glad if you can't hear it - and don't try to listen for it, once you learn how, it's will drive you crazy.

word, and about the iTrip, I still haven't tried it. I want to though. I had an iRock with my first iPod setup, and it played like ass. probably because my antenna has never worked.

The iTrip came with the iPod I just got and it works ok but definitely doesn't have much range. I would go with an Aux in if possible just so you don't have to worry about running into another FM station on the one you are using the iTrip on.

The iTrip is shit. FM Modulation in general is shit.

That said, for $30, I would but an aux-in cable. Or save for a new stereo that has an aux in because otherwise its probably not worth anything anyway.
