Dude, I was impressed with myself for building a semi functional cmoy amp in an altoid case. This trumps that I think. Nice work.

In China...Too Young just a name...

Confucius say, man with hand in pocket feeling cocky all day!
I should have some neat pictures tomorrow evening. I plan to embark on a ~20 mile hike to hit up some of the tallest peaks in HK, all in one big loop during the day tomorrow. Being ~85F and ~90% humid sure makes hiking a little more of a challenge lol. Still, these conditions are worlds better than summer here. Summer in SE China makes summer in Louisiana feel refreshing! I also have about 60lbs of rock climbing gear here with me that I really want to use, but it needs to stop raining!Last edited by bmwman91; 10-11-2011, 03:48 AM.

Sorry I haven't put up any pictures. I ended up not doing the big hike die to inclement weather, and then spent a few days in Macau/Mainland China. Tomorrow is my last day in HK and I am climbing up the nearby 1800ft peak, hell or high water. I hope ot have some pictures form that.
I have also been giving the CD43 project some thought. It is all sort of coming together in my head, and I am optimistic about this getting done!

You should talk to some electronics manufacturers while your out there and establish a facility to make us some bad ass reasonably priced headunits that are period correct with all the bells and whistles.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Hey, sorry I haven't been too active in this in a while. I switched groups at work and am getting some wedding plans together for later this year, so life has been hectic! My M42 also just gave up the ghost (near the end of an 1100 mile weekend) and I am looking at fully built motor options to get it running again. I will get around to this eventually. The microcontroller coding portion of this project is beastly for a number of reasons, although there isn't really anything too difficult, just time consuming.

Greetings from China, again lol. Business trip action.
So, I am now happily married and don't have wedding planning keeping me busy. The car was running well with the nice fully built M42, but I need to pull the head and have a couple of things done to it.
I wish I had like 10x more free time! There are so many fun projects that I want to work on, and not nearly enough time to do them as soon as I would like. This project is still on my list, although I may look for a different head unit to drive things for certain reasons. Also, I might just see about converting this to a setup where the CD43 faceplate is there, but there is no actual CD player or head unit guts behind it, but rather a small media center that can play audio files and take aux inputs and stuff. We'll see. Once I get the car functioning again, I can see where things lie on this.
Sorry to keep everyone in suspense for YEARS! Where does the time go?!

OK, so I am sort of looking at this Alpine HU now.
Why? Well, certainly not because I expect it to be "better" in any way lol. All HUs are the same cheap crap inside. But, this one has 6 station preset buttons, like the CD43. That makes mapping the buttons a lot simpler. There is nothing stopping me from writing some firmware to cycle through the JVC's menu to get the desired preset when I select it on the CD43 faceplate, but that would mean somewhat of a delay between pushing the button and getting the desired station. Not a big deal, but it would sort of crap up the feel of it. For some reason that didn't occur to me at the time, or maybe I couldn't find any other HU's with less than 12 characters on the main display.
So anyway, I may look into obtaining the Alpine HU. The CD inlet is also on the same side as the CD43's so I might be able to get away with fewer or no physical mods.
