I just used a rubber strap wrench on the pulley, and a wrench/hammer on the nut. Worked great.

Anybody have pics of the screwdriver method?

I bought a wrench off ebay, but not the holder

Some say this is impossible but it does exactly what the "pulley tool"does although with a little less certainty. I've never needed more than a tug or a sharp whap with a hand held tool to get a fan off.

Just make sure the screwdriver is set against the PS pump, that the wp pulley is rotated clockwise to "lock down" the screwdriver and that you are pulling up so if something slips your knuckles remain attached to your hands :-)

Note that the tip of the screwdriver is above the fan nut

Yea I know, just wanting to make sure. I've never actually worked on cars until now and I'm learning as I go. Bought the pulley holder from ebay so will work from there. Just a noob trying to learn that's all :)

                      Hello R3V...

I am having an overheating problem in my E30 316i with M40 engine.

The clutch fan is free spinning, hence it does not cool my radiator.

Anyone can help me how to solve this problem.

                      Many thanks...

Hey! Make your own thread about your issue in the correct subforum.
this post here will not get much attention!

It sounds like you just need a new fan clutch!

Thanks dear, I tried a new thread, but was not posted as i'm new here.

This is the only post related to the problem i got.

There is a pin at the centre of the fan, on the pulley, i think that it is stuck and making the fan to free wheeling.

anyone knows how it works for that pin.

Haha, what the fuck are you thinking. Just get a BFH, or an air hammer with a flat chisel and go to town on that stubborn fan clutch.:D
