How to Integrate RC Garage Opener in an E30

    I initially started with this:

But it won't work because the board is different.

Get a remote-controlled garage opener like this one and open it up

Then solder the wires on the board.

Voila! No more fumbling for the garage door remote controller.

What board did you use? Did you just program the 2nd rectangular opener and solder the wires to it?

I used the board from the rectangular controller, yes. Soldered the external button from the top button. It was that simple.

Simple, clean and effective. I will be doing this soon. From the looks of it you used a blank panel from the din area. Did you just put the board behind the din/console area

I did something similar to my Subar back then... But I removed the battery and tapped the cig lighter. This way, I never have to change out the battery and no one can open my garage door without turning on the car first.

Yes I did. Better if you put an insulation around it too.

Hmm, they aren't the same voltage though.

I initially thought of the fog lamp switch but I'm no electrical genius so I couldn't figure it out.

mine was 9v battery i think, but the 12v from cig was fine. It gave it much needed juice (mine was flaky on it's own).

Same concept, just need to modify the switch so that it no longer locks in to place on the on position. You could also modify a window circuit breaker. But a window switch would work perfectly since its already a momentary switch. Get an early switch off a pre 85 e28 and remove the white paint with some acetone. Now you can use two of the buttons on your remote.
