So which one would give me the shortest throw without having to remove/modify anything such as the harmonic balancer in an 88 325is?
you should start on page 1 of this thread and by the time you arrive back to your post you will be able to explain to nubs which shifter they can/should install in their 88 325is'

K, I think I'm going to get the 3.0 z4 one. From my understanding that is the one with the shortest throw, correct?
And how do you bend it? I haven't looked down there yet and don't even know what it is so I have no clue how hard it is or how to do it.
Once you get it installed, it will all make sense. I printed out this whole thread before making my decision. The first couple of pages should do it. Do the research, its all here.
Dealer doesn't have it in stock and I don't want to order through them. Can someone link me to the KO or BMA Z4 2.5 kits? I tried looking but KO only has aftermarket.
look up on ebay. several stores have shift levers. also, pelicanparts.com can order any part you want as well. just get the part number and you can do just about anything.

Just call Patrick at BMA, ask to speak to him only. Tell him you want the z4 2.5 short shift kit, and he will send you every part you need. They don't have it listed on the site but they put it together with all OEM parts.

FreedS4 posted this but not sure where his post went. Might help someone else out.
Got my Z4 2.5 kit from BMA today. So to install am I going to have to jack up the car or can I do it all from inside? I won't have access to a lift till Saturday and would like to install it tonight.
Well I thought I'd give it a try today (even though I didn't know jack shit about it) since I already had the car on jackstands and of course it all didn't go too smooth.
First problem is it seems like there's no way I could put on the circlip onto the selector rod if I use one of those yellow spacer rings, and in the instructions I was following it says I have to use 2 :letitout: (1 on each side). The shift rod's ends don't stick out far enough for the circlip to attach with the rings. ??? And I never found the original rings either. Should I just not use them?
Also, the circlip doesn't seem to slide on completely, but maybe halfway. I tried prying it open a little but same thing. You should be able to turn it once its installed right?
And do I have to replace the circlip/rings on the other side of the selector rod as well (front of car)? Looks really hard to reach and if so I think I'm just gonna take it to a shop.
