It sounds like it'd be a better idea for me to just get one thats prebuilt.

Nando, after reading your build/progress thread, I blame you for my Megasquirt lust;)

if the MS3-Pro were out when I was building mine, I would have fit it inside a stock ECU case and used the stock harness connector. They sell just the PCB too which you can wire up any way you like, and it's like 1/3 the size of an MS3 CPU, MS3x, and V3.0 motherboard.
The MS3-Pro module looks great, but at $850 for the board alone it seems expensive compared to $1050 for the full ECU with watertight case and Amp connectors.

At $400 I'd be purchasing it in a heartbeat to stuff it into an OEM case.

Hoping there will be a couple people interested in one... or at least one, would make for an expensive paperweight 8^)

yeah but those connectors are a pain. there's only one gauge of pin to use and a BMW harness uses 3 wire sizes. the smaller wires pull out too easily and the larger wires (ignition, coils) are too big and you can't really crimp them correctly.

They're still better than the DB37, don't get me wrong - but PnP is where it's at IMO.

the OEM BMW plugs are so much better, especially on the E46 with the modular Siemens connectors. you could fit it all in a stock DME housing, which also means you don't break certain class rules that say DME tuning is open if it fits inside the original box.

            That's just it.

I'm using the OEM 413 case at the moment, but only as an interface to the MS3 (plus it also houses the stock ignitors).

With the MS3 Pro board I would have EVERYTHING inside the case!

yeah, I have my current harness wired straight to a DB37. It sucks. Working on the MS is easy, but the harness is a nightmare. The old V3.0 board, MS3 CPU, and MS3x would not have fit in the stock case at all.

Now I've actually built a reverse-adapter to change my DB37 harness to a Siemens connector. :|

Just finished up building my ms3x, kind of wish I had bought it prebuilt and kind of glad I didn't.
Nando, do you have any insight as far as the key switch? I have seen a few people talking about needing to use a special board with stuff on it but I have not actually seen anyone do it yet.
