M30 AFM swap vs. Performance Chip

- M30 AFM + 19lb 4 pintle 4.6 v8 Ford injectors + Chip tuned for swap

VS.

- Miller W.A.R Chip or any good performance chip


Ive done a bit of research on both but haven't got a lot on the M30 swap I'm really just interested in peoples opinions on either (pro's and con's and what not).
I know the miller chip would be much more versatile but its a bit pricey.

Given that I can get the M30 swap from a buddy for around $100 and the Miller W.A.R chip is around $400 I believe.

i dont think the m30 afm gives any power on a stockish engine, atleast that was my experience. i would look to an option that allows a custom tune, this always is better than generic stuff

My buddy had it on his 325i vert and said it woke it up a bit for sure I know it wouldn't be as much as the war chip he refers to is at the cheap mans MAF swap even though its not a maf its just getting more air and more gas. I am aware that it will run a bit rich but he says its really helps in the top end.

This is stuff I've been told so I'm not saying this is all correct I'm just curious if anyone else has had experience with this setup.

Don't bother. the M30 AFM has been a waste of time since day 1. get a performance chip.

I would personally avoid the WAR chip and just get something from SSSquid or another reputable tune vendor. the WAR chip allows you to tune but the tunes it come with are typically bunk. Unless you're going to invest a lot of time (and money) on the dyno, you're better off getting one that's already tuned out of the box.

Just referred to the war chip because it seemed to be pretty popular on here.

Any other performance chip brands people recommend?

I really have to give props to Sssquid, a forum guy here. His chip for my 179 ECU was awesome. Noticeable difference in seat of the pants hauling.

A genuine chip from Mark D'Sylva (MarkD) is also very cost effective.

If you've got WAR Chip funds burning a hole in your pocket I would look into Megasquirt.
