Does R3V want a m20 supercharger kit?

I voted OEM for the twin screw version otherwise known as the Lysholm!
There is no doubt that the OP has read the infamous book by Corky Bell? His references and guidelines is what I followed when putting a turbo on my 2L 16V VW Golf.
As for P/S, I say yes, keep it, especially as a daily driver and for A/C...mine is not functioning and who needs it!Last edited by scott66; 10-31-2012, 08:31 AM.Comment

Scott66, a lysholm/TS will consume more power when off boost than an M90/M60.

That is interesting...I am not challenging your thought, but what are you facts to base that upon. I understand that both the Lysholm amd Eaton superchargers are belt driven and sit atop an intake manifold. So, you are saying it takes more energy to drive the Lysholm rather than either M90 or M60?
And how are you comparing the M90 to the M60? The M90 is more efficient that the M60 in that it takes less effort to move tha same amount of air at a reduced temperature...so if its up to the M60 or M90...I say to the OP (thats ORIGINAL POSTER)...go with the M90.
In my dream world though, I would still put a Lysholm on my E30 rather than any Eaton supercharger.Last edited by scott66; 11-01-2012, 03:12 AM.Comment

Depending on the style m90, some have a built in bypass unit that more or less free wheels the supercharger being the engine sucks in its needed air around it unless theres hard throttle.
I want a clutched supercharger (like the mercedes ones) so I can go all Mad Max.

My reasoning is that eaton's blowers (much, much improved over the recent years) simply move air (very forcefully, mind you) while the lysholms actually compress air internally, which means that when in bypass, the lysholm (any TS compressor) will have more parasitic loss as it's compressing a gas instead of pushing it in a circle. That is interesting...I am not challenging your thought, but what are you facts to base that upon. I was in the same boat as you (TS fanboi) until learning more. now I'm leaning back towards eaton's product (the newer the better - for better efficiency).

Eaton has came a long way. Even the newer model M90s are much more efficient than the older ones simply in the coatings on the impellers and such. Much less gap between the rotors and better heat dissipation.

I have decided i wanted to SC after finishing a ghetto turbo conversion.
I would myself be looking for a kit that puts the charger in the alternator or the PS location. I myself wont have AC but doing it this way would allow people with AC to keep it.
Anyway subbed e.t.c., any estimates on price for the brackets + pulleys + piping/IC setup?RIP 84 323i coupe 5spd w/ 14psi

I was looking to do it with PS and A/C.
Yes but i need a car to put the stuff on so i can dyno tune on crappy california gas on top of mocking up and taking measurement. I'm considering selling my turbo kit for the 316i and just supercharging it but that car has nothing in the engine bay. Plus the 84 chassis is too different to gamble on fitment issues.
I've read it a couple times before i built my turbo kit. The biggest consideration on the supercharger for me was price and availability. I should be finished with my 3D printer next month so i can make a mock up shorter nose.I voted OEM for the twin screw version otherwise known as the Lysholm!

Those are rare and overpriced IMO. Even if I did an SC M42 it would never be a DASC. You can make more boost with intercooled air for cheaper on an m42.
But I don't need to cloud up Nigel's thread. I was just curious/interested in the progress of his kit.The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Pitched it to my group for senior design. We decided to build one of these instead
