    Das Shop

So we've been wrenching on the E30 and fabricating interesting things in our little 300 ft2 shop for seven years. (Seven?! I can't frigging believe it!) Over the past couple of years I've been gradually laying the groundwork for a real shop: Setting up financing, researching and acquiring the land, creating the site plan, architecting the building and finding the right contractor.

Everything came together and we finally broke ground this week on a 5000 ft2 shop. We'll be using 3000 ft2 and renting out the other 2000 ft2. Will be ready by mid Sept. If you know anyone looking for shop space in Austin let me know.

I'll be posting the shop build here and continue with new car projects we have in mind.

                That’s rad! Congrats!

Land in decent area with developers snagging it up is harder to come by at a reasonable price. Glad to see a shop going up with people building stuff instead of more condo style buildings.

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

If I still lived in Austin I'd definitely be hitting you up for shop space. Can't wait to see the finished shop!

                    That's awesome!

I'm trying to do a similar thing in Philly.

Exciting! How thick are you going with the slab?

I don't have the plans in front of me but I think it's 5". Slab beams are closer together than usual and 24" deep. Soil was pretty spongy so engineer beefed up the slab instead of going overboard on compacted fill.
