Still sitting on the shelf, just as I left them. The car had just been painted and was taking up room in the shop, had to get it out of the way for customers and just haven't gotten back to these. My old car that they were going on was in an accident and got totaled by the insurance company :(

                So...?

If you haven't finished these, would you sell them and let me finish them?

There was a day not long ago I would say yes. But. Alas, a local decided he wanted to use the tri-y on an s52 we are building for his NA ITB e30. :/

Have you ever seen a shoe maker's shoes, or a carpenter's house? I build e30's for a living and just go where the wind takes me. The car in the first post (coupe) was totaled almost half a dozen years ago, then was hung on to for a race car conversion. Bought a clone replacement (sedan) and as a daily/track toy my dad pancaked it in t5 Sebring wall in 2014 on his first HPDE and I was in the Kids Racing For Life car to get my NASA racing license same day. Already had a buyer for the sedan, but now I had 2 bent cars, so dropped the coupe. Fast forward to 2016 and I had the sedan straight/narrow/painted/ 50% caged. It was then covered and not touched since.

I am now turning grey, have kids in college and the e30 business is thriving. I am blessed to be able to build these cars on a daily, so my personal projects are likely on a another 7yr hold until my last child of four is on their own.

For the "tl:dr" type --- life got in the way.

It's pretty hard to beat a 6-2 exhaust without doing a shit load of testing

I will agree to disagree on that one. My mentor did it on a TR-6 with GREAT results, albeit carb on cylinder...

not many people actually do proper testing comparing one with another, so its fine that you get "good" results but without something to compare to how would you know that what you have is fully optimised or even "good"?

then it becomes a question of is there something specfic with your engine that means a certain configuration works best e.g. a certain camshaft, noting that a mild cam has very little interfence with a 6-2 config as pulses are 240* apart

i played around in ENGMOD4T and it didnt show 6-3 being better than 6-2. you could get it to work better at some rpm but it would lose out bigtime elsewhere. this was only a theoretical exercise though the cost of testing is astronomical

if you look at the V8 4-1 or tri-y arguments there are always caveats not a one size (type) fits all

They won't be magic for power, never implied that. They will perform very close to any other design where length/diameter are similar --- it's the sound that is unique.

Are there any headers that allow the oem Y to remain unmodified? This thread has been fun to read and makes me want to install headers but I don’t want to have to cut up the factory Y down piping. Headers like what bimmerheads advertise seem to require complete custom work and I’d like to have something I can just bolt on.
