Parts Differences between '88 to '90 325i Models???

    Hi r3V,

I have an 88 325i Convertible, an 89 325iX and a non-running 90 325i (used for parts now). How similar is the engine in the 90 to the other two? I'm guessing the iX is pretty different, but what about the convertible?

I hope to replace the dashboard in the iX with the on in the 90. That should be a match, shouldn't it?

I need an new muffler on my convertible, one of the short tail pipes rusted off, but I'm guessing the exhaust on the 90 won't work for the convertible (the 90 is a 4 door). Doesn't the exhaust disconnect farther up?

I also am having some idle problems on the iX, so I was going to swap out some parts from the 90. Do you think those are all a match?

Thanks. Just trying to lean. It's getting cold here in Minnesota, so I'm trying to plan as much as I can before I go out in the cold garage to work!

i've never heard of the cabrio exhaust being any different.

ix exhaust is however different! only thing different engine wise is the block and the oil pan on ix.

The IX in a number of cases will be the odd one out here. Most things from the 88 will swap to the 90 and vice versa.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I hear the oil pickup and pump a bit different only because of location.

i lumped that in with the block and oil pan, since it's contained by those. :P

and you forgot the brake booster.
