i just put a fresh set of VR and about 200 miles so far with no leaks yet. I did use some copper spray, i think you guys should check your rocker shaft plugs, put some rtv on the crown and mine stopped leaking when i had thought it was from the VR gasket.

Blew a gasket, replaced with VR gasket and bolts. Had head checked, cleaned, decked. Still leaks oil on exhaust side between cylinder 3 and 4. Not completely convinced it's the gasket though.

Head bolts are good, but when I held a Goetze and a VR headgasket side by side, the quality difference was night and day. Needless to say, the Goetze went on the car.

I just checked a new set of VR head bolts and half are slightly to very bent. This could have been a very bad day! Check it out

At the time that this post was made (2012), VR Headbolts were fine. They were straight as could be.

However, about two years ago they started coming in bent like what you describe. Since then I've been using OEM headbolts which are not but a couple dollars more.

Yep, just went through this with a set of VR m20 head bolts as well. Half were bent, just like in the video above. I'm baffled as to how they are still selling them. The return rate must be through the roof, there's no way they are making money on them.

About 2 years ago, I used VR bolts to build an m60b44. They were all straight, but one of them looked like it went through the threading machine sideways, then went through it again upside down, then drug behind the UPS truck the whole way to my house. It was barely recognizable as a bolt by the time I opened the box. The rest seemed fine.

Out sourcin', out sourcin', oh hey!

Since they're TTY, they'll just straighten themselves out, righty- ho?

This is not going to improve as time goes by, I fear...

I've had 3 VR head gasket failures. All done within a year of each other. I learned my lesson. Never using VR again. Compression is fine. Runs great. Oil seeps out near the cylinder 1 exhaust side. That whole area is wet. It sucks. I've been dealing with it for 3 years now but one of these days I just have to suck it up and replace it.
