M20 Gates Racing Belt Coming Soon.....

Reaching out to all you M20 guys whether your stock, Stroked NA or Forced Induction setups. I have been in touch with a representative from Gates regarding them manufacturing a Gates Racing Belt for the M20B25 and B27 engines and guess what? They said they would do it, and I mean why not they already make these for Audi/VW, Honda and Acuras and Lexus Toyotas why not the ONLY BMW with a Timing Belt LOL

Anyways just gauging interest in the M20 community as to how many of you would be interested in this Belt? I'm not selling these myself, but I did respond to the Reps email regarding whether or not there could be some sort of Group Buy if Possibly if there was enough interest.

The Rep wanted to know suppliers I normally purchased parts from so I can them a short liust of places below.

RockAuto ships auto parts and body parts from over 300 manufacturers to customers' doors worldwide, all at warehouse prices. Easy to use parts catalog.

AutohausAZ has the fastest, most accurate way to find the auto parts you need at the lowest price. Shop our huge auto parts warehouse online today!

eEuroparts.com is the premier supplier of Genuine and OEM auto parts for SAAB Parts, BMW Parts, Volvo Parts, VW Parts, Audi Parts, Mercedes Parts, and other European Car Parts. Since 2000.

Some of which already carry Gates Belts and Gates Racing Belts. So if you guys order parts from a particular place that normally carry just the Contitech Timing Belt PM me or type in the link here and I can forward a list of other suppliers that way Gates can get in talks with them about carrying the Gate Racing Product Line of the M20 Racing Belt.

If you guys want to start a list of guys interested that would be awesome. I will be forwarding the link of this thread to the Gates Rep as well I already made in well aware of the 2 main e30 websites R3v and E30tech.

This is from the email the Gates Rep sent to me:

"Sounds like you want a racing version of the standard T131.
I can do this for you, sir. What’s more I’d love to do this for you because fast BMWs are friggin’ sweet. It will take a little time though just because we have to develop the belt specs, schedule production, get the cataloging ready, packaging, etc. All the usual stuff that happens when we launch a new product.

If I can’t have it by September, then it will 4th quarter sometime this year. I know that isn’t ideal, but hopefully you can bear with us.

Can you tell me where you’d normally buy our products from, so that I can be sure we tell the distributor to get some of these belts in stock when they are ready? Typically Motovicity and Turn 14 support all of our performance products very well so they would be great sources to buy the products when they are ready if you don’t have a source already lined up.

Do you mind if I email you again when the belt is ready, and will you help me out by telling the guys on your forum that we are on this? In exchange, we will make a dynamite belt for you.

Also if you guys have some sweet engine shots or other pics of your cars, let me know. We can get them featured on the gatesracing.com website.

Finally, if there is another product that Gates can make for you, let us know. We want to support the community wherever possible, we’ve just been bad in the past about knowing how to reach out to you guys.

Thanks a lot for your time. Feel free to get in touch with any concerns."

So if any of you guys have some nice engine shots as well feel free to contact them to get featured.

Thanks Guys I've had the idea of contacting Gates for sometime now regarding a Racing Belt and was actually really surprised I received a positive response

I'd be interested depending on price and service interval. Just getting ready to do a head swap/cam upgrade.

I use they're green fleet belts on my Landcruiser and they are better than normal belts. Strong material and dont seem to lose tension.
If they make this belt for a M20 I will buy one.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

I dont have that info since they haven't even made it yet (But trying to by September) but it would have to at least meet or exceed OE specs 4yr/50k. The Racing belts are are rated 300% stronger and I run them on my VW and other customers cars

Thanks for the list I'll compile a list and give it to the Gates Rep. Pricing I'm sure Varies but from what I've seen online for VW/Audi V6 Belts which are really Long and Wide can be had for around $100 mark. The M20 is a small belt not long and not wide at all so material shouldnt cost as much to make as the VW/audi v6 belts

But Like I said I know nothing yet the belt hasn't been made just yet, I will keep everyone updated

sometimes (usually) you don't get the same % increase in longevity as you do with % increase in static strength.

And if this happens to be the case then they would be better suited for FI setups more than lets say a stock setup.

However like I stated before I have no specs as the Belt hasn't been manufactured yet. PLEASE don't turn this into a pissing match, once I have belt specs when the belt is made I will post up all the info I can. I do not work for Gates, I am not trying to sell these belts personally, I am just a enthusiast trying to help the community out in one way or another.

Just pick up my first e30 and she has been sitting for the last three years. Pretty sure she could use some new belts!! I'll be more than happy to try these out.
