cold air intake adds at least 10hp man!
A few ideas in my head

You could always buy a MarkD chipped ecu for your car.
I would say basic maintenance, schrick 272 or a bimmerheads 274, lightened flywheel on stock clutch, exhaust, chipped ecu for your mods.
There is no way you can make your car fast with $200 and 2hrs of labor(unless you use a nitrous kit). Just make a list, a monthly budget, buy and pile up parts, and when your all set to go, install.Comment

What this guy said. $200 bucks wont get you much at all. Maybe even make you slower if you get the wrong stuff.
-I would get:Bimmerheads (Mr. E) head with a 274
-A ITB set up because one of the single biggest restrictions on an m20 is the OE metal intake.
-Some 19lb injectors.
-Some sort of after market tuning system with a real tune.
Its going to cost good money but if you really want more power you have to make some big changes. Everyone dreams of the Saturday bolt on 100hp upgrade but it really does not work like that.sigpic

I appreciate the ideas guys i really do

i know it was not tuned but there was something wrong i think, for things to be that far out even with bog stock motronic and chip....
if you want to compare you need to compare a tuned motronic to tuned MS89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

lighten your car and it will feel faster. I did the i head conversion. decked head stock eta block , alpina rep chip on stock injectors and eta exhaust system. I felt like it moved well..
for $600
this vid was on a stock chip and 87 gas

on a stock motor, ITBs aren't going to do anything for you other than kill the low end and cost a lot of money. the stock intake manifold isn't a restriction on a stock motor.^

at the end of the day, just get a chip. forget the rest of the mods - if you don't want to learn how to tune it, they're mostly going to be a waste of money. spend the money bringing your M20 up to factory freshness.Comment

I think the idea here is that MS is a lot easier to tune than Motronic is.
it also proves that the AFM barely makes any difference on a stock motor. a $300+ MAF conversion is a waste of energy.Comment

no doubt its easier, but X* of timing is X* of timing, and Y AFR is Y AFR so at WOT not likely to be a huge difference except those due to the different inlet system.
When i went from a tuned motronic M30AFM system to standalone a decent bump in midrange torque was found but no real peak hp.
even if the AFM isnt really restricting a stock system it is a far superior metering system and driveability gains would probably be worth the effort IMO. ive never used the system you refer to to know if it is a refined setup.89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...
