    Paper M20 oil pan gasket

I need a Paper M20 oil pan gasket. I've tried various sources but can't seem to find anywhere. Any leads?

There are none left, nor are there plans for another batch run. Only way you will find any is if someone has some stashed on a shelf somewhere.

Cork works fine if you don't hamb-fist it.

So question... because I read this thread, I went to look up the gasket on Pelican. They have 3 - the paper, cork and OEM one. It doesn't say what the OEM gasket is made from and it's 3X more expensive.

So if you don't wanna use cork, what's the alternative?

You'd think someone would still be making paper but if not, I have one I'd trade for..oh...say..a minty husco :)

I tried to place an order of the MTC brand from pelican site but it said

"Out of Stock! We're sorry, but we appear to be out of stock in brand MTC.
          Please select an alternative brand:"

Anybody know what material the Genuine BMW brands is?

BMW is cork also, I think rubberized. I've always had better luck using the paper ones also. Good luck.

Yes the OEM BMW gasket is cork with rubber. It's MUCH nicer than the aftermarket cork gaskets.

I prefer the paper too but since they're gone we must make due.

Do you use this with or without the cork gasket? How does it hold up?

No gasket. No leaks yet and I've beat on the car for ~50,000km now.

Clean the bolts well and Loctite blue - then no over-torquing worries!

Bumping this. MTC has just done another batch of paper gaskets! They should be available again from your favorite supplier.

I just did the oil pan over the weekend on a e28 535i using only threebond 1184 gasket maker. I have succesfully used this on two e34 oil pans, and this E28. I bought my tube at the local powersports shop.

sand both surfaces with 320 sand paper and then degrease using brake cleaner + rag. install 3 or 4 2 inch long m6 studs (to guide pan on perfectly). put a good size bead all around the oil pan and let it dry for a couple minutes - then push straight up onto the studs and begin threading bolts. let it sit overnight to dry and youre golden.

i wouldn't be sanding anything near the oil pan, one little abrasive particle can wreak havoc. id find an abrasive pad thats less likely to shed
