    2.7i swap no start

I have recently completed my 2.7i swap, using a 2.5 head with a cam and 20lb injectors and a 2.7 block. I had an 87 325e so when I got my donor engine and wiring harness I got one from an 87 325i. I am using a 173 ecu with a sssquid chip in it built for the swap.

Engine cranks hard but will not fire, the fuel pump relay will receive power sometimes and sometimes it won't so I have jumped the relay so it will always come on.

    I have tired or replaced:

2 different cps ( same problems sometimes fuel pump turn on sometimes won't and not firing)

Redid the timing ( produced a hotter spark once it was done but nothing)

Took fuel injectors out of head placed a towel under all of them and turned car over and fuel came out ( they must be getting a pulse)

Readjustaded all the valves ( they were a little tight so now back to specs)

Tired swapping ecu from my 89IX, ecu ended in 350 ( once done i had no spark at all which was weird )

Tried putting in the original chip for the ecu (same problems : intermittent fuel pump and no start)

    Tried a different AFM

Any input would be amazing so confused

I just checked the c101. On the harness side I have pins 1,2,4,5,6,7,10,11,12,13,16,18 and on the car side is have pins 1,2,4,5,6,7,10,11,13,16,18

So on the car side I'm missing pin 12 which i think is the check light.

Did you check that the cps and aFm plugs are not swapped around. They are identical

            Is your ECU grounded?

Yes I'm getting a very strong spark, and ecu should be grounded i have it bolted in to the original spot in the glove box,

I'm 99.99% sure i have the right connector for the cps, I checked the ohms on the cps then i plunged it into the connector and checked pin 57,58 on the ecu plug and i was getting the same reeding, when i shaped them to see i got nothing. So with that test I'm fairly certain i have the right connector.

Weird thing, if I take the fuel line off the fuel pressure regulator and turn the car over fuel comes out of the line, but if I plug the fuel line back into the regulator and take the fuel pressure regulator out of the fuel rail nothing come out. Is that normal ?

I think your fuel lines are hooked up backwards.

But wouldn't no fuel come out when I take the line off the fuel pressure regulator

The line coming off the fuel pressure regulator is the return back to the tank.

So I changed the fuel lines around and nothing, check to see if i still have a spark and no spark. I am going to put the brand new cps on and see what happens.

You swapped to a toothed crank pulley vibration damper thing right?

Oh snaps. That's a really good point. The eta harmonic balancer / vibration damper is smooth and the i is toothed.
