    Strange piston damage

What would cause this piston damage and would it require replacement? It was in a m20b25 with 150xxx miles.

Head is similar but not as bad.

Id say it ate something at some point in its life. as long as it didnt pinch the ring groove you could run it.

Ring seats are perfect damage is localized to that one area on piston and head.

Considering how plentiful used, good condition M20 piston are, I would just pick up a used one and not run that one.

              How's the block?
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

looks like it ate something and it got squished into the head/piston at TDC
