M20b25 with a 288, RHD stacks, longtubes, and megasquirt along with wasted spark

    Hi R3V,

I am looking forward to pull out my engine and trans for the process of my 5 speed swap, and rack swap to e36 m3 along with fixing all the leaks and gremlins of my E30.

I figured while I am there I can just do a 24v swap with an s50/52 or an M52 from a z3 (much like Simons Vanessa)but it's too mainstream haha.

So I was searching around and found out there is a place near me that will grind a 288 cam for me for under 300 bucks!

There is the ITBs available that was introduced to me by Kameron (ka motors).
All I can say is that they are badass, I was sold the minute I saw them.

Port and polish the head with 1mm over size valves.

    Wasted spark and megasquirt.

I already have a pair of long tube headers to go on the car.

I think I will be able to achieve 230bhp with this setup. What do you guys think?

you will not get 230 bhp out of an m20 with a 288 cam and long tube headers

Yeah you would be better off bumping compression and cubic inches up then your goals are realistic

Considering I will be putting a free flowing head and intake system

But what I have heard a 2.7i does absolutely nothing. Speaking from a stock stroker setup .

you wont reach your goals if you dont build a 2.7/2.8 with higher compression than stock m20b25.

the 2.7i is different thing basically slapping a stock head on an eta gives results that are average at best

best bet is the OEM 2.8L style good for 215whp with a 272 cam 30whp more and 35wtq more than the smaller lower comp spec 2.5L engine would give

You can't run a 288 cam with a stock bottom end without cutting more valve clearance into the pistons. And the compression is too low for the cam, as Digger noted. If you're pulling the head off anyway, might as well go for a full build.

Honestly I would forgo the regrind 288 and try to find a used Schrick 288, which usually is around $300 anyway. To me it seems like the best cam for a moderate-highly built engine, unless you plan to go full digger. :p

Definitely build up that bottom end. The only reason i can see for keeping the stock 2.5 bottom is if your racing class has a displacement limit. Do a 2.8 like Digger said.

I am looking at the Ireland "stroker" kit and it's a bit pricy

I know I can use the m52b28tu rods but can I also use the Pistons?
