I've taken apart a few M10's that should have grenaded, and yet they were still running.

Budget for an engine as soon as you can, though. Especially if you think track days are in your future.

For sure, I'm looking at new engines, and I'll just wait for a good deal

You don't need oil. Weighs too much and slows down moving parts. You did the right thing before. LTW E30 is best E30.

I'm changing the oil tomorrow and if I see a lot of metal in the oil, then I'll get a new engine, if not, I'll drive it till it breaks, or rebuild the top end ;D

Ok 1st your compresion is likely fine thats the least of your worries . Your rod and main bearings are SHOT.....

You need to drain your oil out and look for metal fragments, I am willing to bet that it comes out looking very pearlessent with lots of fine bearing material in it. After you pull the filter cut it open and look and see how much of your bearings are in there. That diesel noise you hear is ROD KNOCK, she be junk and every foot you drive is pure borrowed time.....

With as hard as it is to source good running M20 power plants used now a days, I would park it sooner rather than latter, and start looking for a good running M20 variant, or start collecting rebuild parts. Bearings, rings, water pump, oil pump and pick up, master gasket kit, head bolts, timing set, for bare minimum starting point. Hope you didnt fubar your crank too badly by spinning a bearing and need a new one, or need a few new rods and pins........
I'll change the oil tomorrow and report my findings. If I get metal I'll get a whole new engine, if not, I'll rebuild the top end. I believe the noise was just in the too end but I don't completely know yet. Thanks for the help!!:)

Why do you think it was your top end and not the bottom end?

Okay I'm 18, this is my first car, I got it a month ago. Yes I don't know that much, and I'm trying to learn, you can't blame me, we all started somewhere. Anyways I changed the oil and didn't find any metal or pearlescent coloring in the oil and I put in a fresh oil filter long with Valvoline High Milage Full Synthetic 10w-30. It seems to be running perfect now.

Does JC Whitney still sell the engine overhaul kit with the miracle metal plating pellets you drop into your spark plug holes, and the can of magic elixir you pour in your crankcase? That's what this guy needs, fer shurr!!! ;)

I dont know I tired to help.......

M20's can take some abuse, but they dont sound like a diesel and live very long in my experience well no gas engine does for that matter....

OP when you drained the oil did it look like bass boat hull..... Have a Glitter look to it???? You do know that the M20 calls for a 20w50 weight engine oil right????

how long does it take for the oil pressure light on dash to go out both when stone cold and a hot restart?
