No power? Swap it!
To diagnose, can ya say if anything changed? Recent fill up? Just swapped out some parts? Hit a big puddle?
Can you do a stomp test? What year? What motor? -
It must be particular to cars in north Hollywood .I bought a replacement car for my tired 87 ,it had 102,000 original miles but it does not accelerate like my old car,I still can not locate the difference ,the old car is original and has three times the miles on it ,very frustrating ....cars from north Hollywood..Comment

It's an m20 engine, year is 1988 325i, I've never done a stomp test and I also don't now how to, my last fill up was today I put 89 in there. I might be guessing it is the master air flow so I ordered a new one I'm hoping that is the problem.Comment

They have 91 in LA. I've always put 91 in my car, some mechanic told me that it's not good to always put 91 in your car since it is an old car it's not good for your carComment

It's a tractor motor, it can run on 87 and is in fact designed to run on 87.Originally posted by codyep3I hope to Christ you have looks going for you, because you sure as fuck don't have any intelligence.

The M20B25 can potentially run for a million miles or more with the proper care at the right intervals....
We know this though... Regardless.... 90+ octane is a smart move....

Need more info mate..Has this been the issue since you have owned the car? or did you do something and then after that it started?
options and potential things to check based on your descriptiong include,
-google stomp test, perform it, let us know results.
-Incorrect ignition timing, though thinking again I don't think you can actually change it.
-Fuel filter blocked (have you ever changed it?)
-Catalytic convertor callapsed or exhaust blocked?
-Is the auto playing up? does it have enough fluid?
-Is the hand brake or brakes stuck on?
-Can you hear the engine ping or detonating?
-When was the last time you adjusted the valves?
-Is the air filter clogged? (unlikely cause, but possible if VERY bad)
-Are you actually getting ignition break down?
-Have you ever changed or checked the condition of your spark plugs or distributor cap?
-Have you actually done any checks on your mass air flow meter before blindly buying a new one?
-What is the fuel economy like? is it running very rich?
-Forget the fuel type comments.Comment

Unless it's chipped or you had high compression pistons installed you'll be fine on 87 octane.
It's an automatic, so first thing is to check transmission fluid. Could be low or burnt, burnt means you're looking for a rebuild or should be planning a 5 spd swap.Comment

I am planning on doing a 5 speed swap real soon I'm just looking for the right one that comes with all the parts you need for the swapComment
