Basic Oil and Lubrication Info (Bentley Manual)

I had a bit of trouble searching for this information myself so I figured I may make it a bit easier for people in the future.

This information is pulled from a Bentley manual specifically stating to cover the 318i, 325, 325e, 325es, 325i, and 325is, and 325ic from 1984-1990. I know anyone can find that same manual themselves but you can never have too much information.

The "Special Oil*" was a synthetic blend that BMW sold back then before synthetics were a popular thing. Ignore it. Just pay attention to the Viscosity/Temp. Conventional or synthetic.

5L is what I put in my engine. BTW, since you are new to the forum I would give you a bit of advice. Use the search function here before creating any new post or you'll be roasted. This information has been covered many times in the past.

You're probably putting in 5 quarts not 5 litres.

Oil cooler / no oil cooler ?

325e same as 325i in other words?

Not the same, but realistically the oil stays in the cooler when you change it, so unless it's a complete fill up (including the empty cooler), they all take about 5qt on a normal change.

Yea good point. Makes me want to put a drain plug on the oil cooler somewhere.
