    M20 head gasket weirdness.....

What is the reasoning for M20 head gaskets having water gallery holes smaller than the galleries themselves...Theyre largest around the exhaust side of 5 & 6 and only small holes on the inlet side getting smaller up to missing completely on No.1....

Basically to meter the flow so there is even coolant distribution to all parts of the head and increase dwell time to give the coolant sufficient time to pick up enough heat.

Some people will weld the channels shut on the head side so it matches the gasket.

Water will always flow path of least resistance.

I think they weld it to reinforce the head, nothing to do with cooling
