I don't know if I buy jim's theory on that one or not. Lots of people have the head welded and never have problems with cooling. BMW actually made the same design change on later M30 heads.
What Head Gasket?

I wouldn't even consider an MLS on an N/A engine.
plus you have studs - a good quality OEM headgasket and the proper torque on those puppies is all you need. and of course good tuning and proper cooling system maintenance. I'm guessing you're not going to try and use the stock chip/ecu with an 11:1 CR race motor, so no worries about a poor tune causing problems. :)Last edited by Dyno4mance; 01-05-2009, 05:19 PM.

potentially a good idea if you are going to be spinning it high in the RPM range for long periods of time. the M20 head tends to fill with oil quite rapidly. I don't know about on a daily driver or a car that sees low RPM/idle very much. At the very least, i would get a new one and make sure it's not bent or spraying in the wrong direction.Comment
