    Help me pin out a 173 DME?

    Hello, my son has a 173 DME for his 2.7i motor that he is putting together. Can somebody point me to a diagram so I can check all the pins and confirm that it will mate to the wire harness he’s got?
    My son has the 1987 325e, 2 door, 5speed
    I daily the 1989 325i, 4 door, 5speed

      That page has all of the Electrical Troubleshooting Manuals, just find your year and read it. Section 1360 should have all of the ECU pins, functions, wire color, and wire size.

                  I did a 173 motronic upgrade in an 87 eta using an 87 harness and did not have to change anything on the harness. Externals like injectors, reference, crank and oil level sensors had to be changed but zero on the harness

                          What? Are you sure about that? Motronic 1.0 used on the 84-87 eta has a completely different connector, with like 20 less pins. The entire harness is completely different. I know you're a long-time member, but there's no way this is true unless you had an '88 seta.

                              i did the same. i grabbed a 87 325is harness and plugged it straight into my 86 325e harness and everything works other than changing afm, cps, dme 173,

                                  Oh, I think I misread. He swapped an 87 325i harness into an ETA. I thought he was saying he plugged in a 173 DME into the eta harness. Yes, that makes sense. :)
