    Timing Belt inspection?

I purchased a 1989 325i a few months ago and the PO mentioned he had the T Belt done but did not have any documentation. Is it possible to determine if it has been replaced recently by visually inspecting it?
Do I need to remove the Upper Cover or can I see by removing the distributor only?

The whole top cover has to be removed to see it well but you can't really tell much from a visual inspection anyway unless the belt is worn, damaged or excessively old. If you have no idea when it was replaced, no sticker with a mileage and date, etc. you're better off just replacing it. Head rebuilds/replacements are $$$

      When in doubt, replace it!
