Great swap thread, thought about picking up a 318 and M30 swapping it but seems like it might be out of my mechanical abilities for now haha

Wow. Just read through this whole thing. You have inspired me to go with a m30 over turbo m20! Can't wait to get started.

I did a lot of extra stuff to this swap, you don't NEED disc brakes in the rear, I just had the parts available, and trust me, the Z3 rear subframe with the condor bushings was so hard to get into the car we had to just plain out stop a couple times, everything was squared up, we were level with each other, it was a pain.

To be honest though, thats the worst it's gotten so far..

So happy for you decision too, when you do decide to boost the m30, you'll make a lot of power on very little boost comparing to an m20, Plus timing chain over time belt!

One of the main reasons I want to do m30 is because of timing chain! I'm tired of belts breaking all the time

i'm following this thread closely too...

I bought Franks M30 Guide, have read it cover to cover.
                      twice.

I'm anticipating a fairly smooth experience.

The M30 swap doesn't seem to daunting compared to others.

It has been done enough times and Frank's writeup is great. It's almost Legos at this point.

Gathering parts though...that's the challenge if you step outside the tried and true path.

It's funny when you get under the car and realize how quick everything comes apart!! So far I have enjoyed the whole thing, not a lot has stress me out, and nothing thus far has left me utterly flustered and beat.

Before I got the swap car or parts I was in the middle of searching everything down, I was about to pull apart my e34 535i for the engine, etc.. This would have been quite a battle for all the extra stuff I have.

hopefully we will be back up by wednesday or so

The diff needs to go in, but the PO spun a couple allen heads on the rear axles pretty dang good, so an alternative to getting the diff in will most likely need to be used.

Aside from that I am anticipating a fairly smooth ending to the swap.
