Just outta curiousity. Do you guys prefer a m30 over a m50 swap?

I've always heard .1sec for every hundred pounds, but that's obviously a very loose estimate.

Went to PIR Late Night drags on friday.

    3.73 lsd
    Toyo Proxes 4s 205/50/16
    D'sylva chip
    z3 2.3 short shifter
    Magnaflow Highflow Cat
350mi off tune up and oil change.
    1/2 tank of gas
    Took out spare tire
    287lb driver
Really slick 0-60', lots of oil.

14.537 @ 95.35 was my best didn't differ too much, ran pretty consistently 14.5-14.59.

7 races, beating a Modified 350z(crap driver), 2 Stang 5.0's, a Talon TSI AWD, and some modified scion, and an A1 GTI with a 16v swap. Only lost to an SS Trailblazer that was supercharged. He was 14.1 @ 97.1 with a better RT. But he broke after 3 runs and went home.

Felt like I was hitting a wall at 85 mph, was up to 77mph at 1/8th mi considering changing 3rd gear shift time to around 6k RPM next time. Car will hit 60 in about 6 seconds flat every time, mild launch.

Wondering if it would be much faster with someone who weighed less.

The PnP MS wouldn't be setup for the wasted spark though would it? I also did not see it on their site for a 50 pin motronic. I'm pretty sure my VR wires are good. I ran them separate away from all the other wires, and I've got them shielded all the way up to where they into the MS. I have spark now, but it just seems a little weak. I can get the car to fire, but when I think I'm getting close it just floods out the plugs every time.

    the forums?

stock harness works fine for wasted spark; you just need two more wires for the other two coils, the original coil wires to drive one of the coils and power all 3. But I did mine with my own adapter so it's a little easier to modify.

of course if your harness is good there's no real reason to go back. except the VR sensor wires can be tricky if they aren't done right.

Well, those wouldn't work anyway. I don't think. I'm running wasted spark.

Yeah, I've tried, but just couldn't get anywhere with any of it. Could have another underlying problem, but not sure. I'm planning to just rewire everything again, and get another MS built. I'm sure I screwed up something somewhere. I need another laptop first though. Mine took a crap on me just when I thought I was maybe getting somewhere.

I have a JB Racing 11lb or is it 12lbs. Hell, I don't even remember now. Anyways, I can't really tell anything bad about the idle. Well, when it was running anyways. Since I am a major failure with MS, and I can't get the car started. It hasn't run in like 3 years. :(

i had some belt issues this summer, never had to take the rad out, and i managed to fit my stock 325i rad in with joefunk's mounts, i have an m30 markd chipped swapped e30 and an ix turbo, and they are both awesome in their own ways.

the m30 torque is unreal even at stock, and i was completely satisfied with it. i got the ix turbo cause it was a screaming good deal on an awd car, i paid less than the turbo parts would have cost me in the end. it runs at 10 psi and there really is nothing like the feeling of boost.....

were in the middle of a full rebuild on the ix, so i've got some experience on m20 turbo builds and m30 swaps, when you consider all the tuning that has to go into a turbo swap, i would say a straight m30 swap would be alot easier, unless you get someone else to tune it for you that you trust. but when the price is considered, m30 swap hands down.

Only thing about the m30 is you need
to take the rad out when replacing a PS belt,
    thermostat, and dizzy cap/rotor.

    It's a once in a 7 year thing though so...... :P

    Turbo m20 for sure though.
    M30b35 is like a m20 on 5psi.
