Like any head bolt (stretch bolt or not) you can reuse them. However, you run the risk of failure (either to the bolt or premature head gasket failure) some head gaskets, like the head gasket Ive put on my m30b35 required me to replace the original stretch bolts with new ones or the gasket was not warranted if it failed.
You are right you can reuse them, but you are wrong that they aren't stretch bolts.

I was told by the local BMW shop that they are NOT stretch, im not trying to argue and i say replace them regardless but the m30 bolts are not tight to yieldComment

i would replace them as well, all im saying is that they are not torque to yield and can be reused...
im not saying i would reuse them or that anyone else should, what im saying is that you can if you so desireComment

e24/e28 radiator and e28 535i g260/6 tranny have arrived. Engine mounts / flywheel have not yet arrived. I went with a used oem radiator (po said it's only 2 years old) as it was only $55 shipped. Tranny has sensors attached to it, I don't remember if there is anything I need to do with those etc.
I gotta study for a microsoft exam this coming up monday, so not much will happen this weekend. For what it's worth my exhaust valves looked exactly the same. Now whether or not that is good or bad I haven't the foggiest.

Still waiting on a couple parts to arrive to make it complete (head gasket, bolts, chains....). Picked up my cleaned up parts ready for new seals etc... Any tips on replacing these front/rear seals? Is it a remove and replace type of deal or do I have to apply any kind of grease or anything to make sure they don't leak?
Thread on the upper timing chain cover is messed up, will have to fix it.
I noticed there is a spring mechanism inside the oil filter housing, what is it's purpose?

Pound the seals out carefully using a chunk of wood so that you don't damage the aluminum. I usually use a little Permatex ultra grey or copper around the outside of the seal and push it in. Sometimes they will go in by hand (Volvos, Alfas) but on the Bimmers I have usually needed a block of wood and light taps with a hammer. A thin smear on the oil pan gasket never hurts either, just don't go too nuts with the stuff since it can clog oil pumps and passages if you have a ton of extra in the crankcase.
The springy device in that style oil canister should be the anti-drainback valve. Since that filter sits up high unlike the earlier canisters that hang off the engine, they need a valve to prevent all of the oil draining out of the filter when the engine is off. Not wanting to thread jack but ist it true that an m30b35 wieghs only 50lbs more than an s50/52? I came across an m30b35 with sub 50k miles for only $700. Similar mileage s50/52 cost me $3500! For similar hp/more tq I could have saved myself almost $3000. I got the 6-speed for a grand; the motherfucker has a 265 for $200! N/A with cam/chip/exhaust you make more power/torque than 24v swaps for less money. Turbo that monster and youare in M5 territory on the cheap. I guess euroshark and others have sitting on gold for a long whilst others have beed fucking around sterling silver.Comment

Also, as long as you're using b35 electronics you shouldn't need the flywheel sensors in the tranny, I just have the plugs hanging around in my engine bay.
