I only have an e30/e36 bentley manuals, I need to pick up an e34 (535i) manual I guess.
I got you covered on both.

Did some clean-up today on the block/head. Replaced the front/rear seals on the timing/crank covers. Just waiting on new rings and main bearings to arrive now and then it's just bolting everything back, I am going to remove the crank and clean/paint the block to make it look nice.

Plan on getting another head once this swap is done to add some porting/polishing+cam and a correct chip :)

The cam makes the engine more responsive plus a lighter flywheel, what flywheel do you have?

Getting a 533 flywheel locally. Can these be safely re-surfaced by any machine shop? nothing special about them?

Regular E34 (535) clutch kit will work plug-and-play or do I need to order something specific to make it work with 533 flywheel?

Providing the flywheel is "single mass" you should have no troubles having it properly machined by a shop.

The BMW "duel mass" flywheels are not able to be machined because they can't be taken apart (It's all one piece)

                That's my experience anyway.

It is single mass. I am still not sure on what clutch I need to order to make it work w/o having to modify anything... as I understand it OEM e34 535i clutch kit won't be the right one to get as it never came with 533 flywheel.. the guy I am buying a flywheel from is saying that I need to make sure the clutch needs to have a sprung hub?

"You need to make sure the clutch you put in has a sprung hub since its a single mass flywheel, e28 535i"...

                  True?

I paid 50 to get my 533 wheel trimmed down and resurfaced. Call around, BMW specific shops will want to gouge you.

Thank you. Other than e28 535i, what other options do I have if you happen to know?

E28 M5 spec stuff will work - I've got a stage 3, 6 puck for mine. It's worth mentioning that mye28 is THE PLACE for these niggling M30 questions :)

Someone on the e24 forum had this to add:

"The clutch used on the 260/5 trans (US 533, 633 and 733) has a lower profile to clear the bellhousing on that trans. If you are using the 260/6, 265 or 280 trans then it is preferrable to use the clutch set for the US 3.5l or even better, the M series products. As euroshark mentioned, they work fine with the 533 flywheel (which is the same part as the M series). The lower profile set from the 3.3l will work."

I am going to go ahead with an e28/e34 535i clutch kit since it's complete and I don't have to piece it together.

Manifold has been painted, block and valve cover is next. Fingers crossed on rings arriving before saturday.

Picked up a 533 flywheel today as well, I guess the starter that I have is the "bigger" one, not sure if makes any difference to swap for a smaller B35 starter... any thoughts on that?
