Just had to be quoted. Glad your m42 lives! I think I am going to have to do this soon, I've got a leak after my major overhaul and I'm not happy, wasting precious Rotella!

It turns out my valve cover threading on the head is stripped. I think only 4 or 5 bolts still tighten so unfortunately...I'm wasting precious Rotella as well. Do you use the synthetic or the dino?
Also, I smell a gators or a miami fan....
Also also, I'm getting crazy loud ticking that speeds up with the rpm. I tried using Rislone already and nothing. Maybe I bent a valve when I tried to start it with the timing off? I dun weally know. Is it possible that it is my lifters? I mean- the ticking is loud enough where I hear it inside the car with the windows up and the fan on.

sup. here what you do to fix this problem of stripped VC bolts.
the size is 6x1.00. get a tap and some long bolts in this size. run the tap to clear out the stripped threads. then cut the 10mm tops off the bolts to make studs. Stud the whole valve cover with nuts and washers where needed. Ditch the OEM bolts all together, even the stupid rubber grommits that fit on them.
Turbo M42 Build Thread :Here Ig:ryno_pzk I like the tuna here.

Sounds like the words of a true hero to me. I'll do this as soon as I can and report back.
Ok, so I retapped all of the head threading. There's seems to be oil shooting out of somewhere still. I think it might be from where the dipstick goes into the upper oil pan... has anyone had an issue like this? This is a crazy oil leak.
UPDATE: I took apart the oil filter housing and found out that there was no O-ring on the top circular part of it. I wrapped that area up with silicone plumbers tape and so far so good. Kind, of ghetto, but hopefully it works until I get an O-ring or something. The leak is no more!
figured this was as good as any place to reply...that great stuff RTV...how long do you let it dry before you were torquing everything down? I have my head off, about the replace the HG and the profile gaskets...

I'd recommend pulling the filter housing and doing it properly...it's gonna blow out again at some point. Make sure to seal the paper gasket on both sides with high-temp oil-resistant RTV too, and do not get ANY on, around or in the round top hole since that's where clean oil comes out of the housing.
