    Gas Mileage?

What are you all getting for gas mileage? I just rebuilt my engine and I'm tracking my mileage but I want to compare with everyone else.

With a full tank of gas I averaged about 23.6 MPG. Mostly in town driving with a couple of freeway jaunts to Seattle and back.

My car as it sits today:

M42B18 w/ Turner Chip, stromung exhaust, new fuel pump/sender, Bosch 19 lb Fuel injectors, on stock weaves

Last I checked it was hovering at 26 and change overall from 2+ years of data. I haven't officially tracked it in more than 6 months. In that time the car was stock half of the time, and chipped, the other.

Similar here. Generally 25-28mpg depending on driving type. Hwy is usually in the upper 20s. Around town its more like 23.

I have only filled up 3 times since buying mine, but 80 city/20 hwy mixed driving resulted in 23.3 mpg. Mostly highway resulted in 30.5.

I usually get around 26 with mixed driving. That's with a MarkD chip, mustang injectors, and the 4.10. Also have 15" wheels so I'm not sure how that affects my calculations.

Same here, with a chip only.

Sounds like your getting typical numbers, giving the fact that it maters a lot on the driving style.

Gents - Thanks! Can't wait to install cruise control and take a long drive.

I had nearly 34 coming down out of the mountains with the previous engine. Not too shabby for a 25 year old car.

In the end, if we really cared about mileage we'd DD 500cc motorcycles and drive first gen Honda Insights on the weekend with the SO.

That said, the M42 is second only to the M40 in terms of petrol E30 engines that I've used. I'll soon have a turbo M21 powered wagon, and I'll report back on how crappy it's MPGs are so we can all feel good about not having 6 or 8 cylinder cars in this sub forum.

I'm wondering if I have an exhaust leak. Maybe not but worth checking.

This makes me wonder how my fuel economy is, probably quite bad on account of the ~9:1 compression ratio and my inability to stay off the boost! (bets?) I have to fix my odometer to find out.

I've had the little gears laying around for months and haven't fixed it because I hate taking interiors apart even though I quite enjoy working on little things like instruments and electronics.
