    G260 Leak Between Cases

History: Car purchased ~1year ago and front end rebuild is almost done. While car has sat it is evident the transmission drain plug AND the area between the 2 transmission cases is leaking slowly.

For the drain plug, do people normally use blue loctite to seal it up or some kind of rtv? Or Teflon tape?

And wouldn't you believe the PO actually spent the coin to have the transmission rebuilt...he actually had receipts and I couldn't believe how much he spent. Clearly they didn't seal it up right though.

Can anything be done besides actual transmission disassembly to seal where the 2 cases meet? I hate leaky transmissions and since mine shifts/works perfectly I would hate for fluid to run low. Any chance smearing RTV after a thorough cleaning would work? I know it would look stupid.

How many labor hours would it be for a transmission shop to reseal?

i don't even know if there is an actual gasket for the two parts or an o-ring or anything for the drain plug. i doubt smearing a sealant on the outside will be effective for very long. very first thing i'd try is to torque the bolts and plug to spec with the trans in the car before contemplating taking it out.

The remnants of sealant is visible on the mating area so they "tried". I will check torque, but I verified they are tight recently and not loose or anything.

i'm sure even if there is not a gasket there is probably some type of sealant usually.

Plugs are 37 FT LBS, I use pipe dope

Sometimes you can slow it down with re-torqueing the case half bolts.

Make sure the detent cap on the LR isn’t leaking.

I was up above it, Now I'm down in it ~ Entropy - A Build thread.

Sorry, what is LR? Thanks for the plug torque spec, I'll look up the transmission bolt torques.

I honestly didn't know that cap existed...is that a vent or something? I'll see if I can reach that too thank you.

Put gearbox in neutral, there are springs underneath the 2 bolt cap. Replacement caps will have bonded in rubber gasket vs the old cork gasket.

I assume it was replaced if it was rebuilt....
