I am hearing different stories on the possibility of a 89 325is (manual) driveshaft working in a 86 325es (manual) car. I've performed searches in various places and can't determine if this is so. Has anyone successfully done this? My 86 325es needs a driveshaft and there is one on CL locally that is rebuild with roughly 3k miles on it for 75.00 but it came out of a 89 325is.

You might have a big flange tranny or you may not...either way at that price you buy that driveshaft, change the center support bearing and if you have to...change the output flange on the trans. I traded a small flange for a large flange with someone on r3v because I wanted to convert my turbo car over to the larger style guibo. It's a pain matching up flanges but not that big of a deal if you can get a nice driveshaft that cheap."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

These.
If it doesn't fit, you can always swap the output flange. Not that big of a pain.

The guy sold the quibo with the trans that went with the shaft. He's not sure of the guibo size. Did the 89is come with the big guibo? Mine only looks to be about 6" in dia.
If his did have the big guibo, could I just get the big guibo with the correct flangeand be good to go?1986 BMW 325es

IIRC, late models all have the small guibo. but yes. u can change the output flange on the early trans (big guibo set up) to the late model flange (small guibo).1989 325i SETA stroker [delphin] R3V'd 8/31/2011

You would think that they all used the larger style later on but that's not the case.
Now I have an extra one of each. FML.
