    Factory dual mass.

However, I've found that I have collected most of two swaps without really realizing it...and I can't be storing a motor right now.

Would anyone be interested in an m62 from a wrecked e38 with all accessories, wiring harness, expansion tank, 404 DME, m42 tach plug, e34 v8 booster, ZF 5spd and linkages?

So how would a 265mm jbr lightweight flywheel with a non- spring hub clutch feel daily driving?

Any opinions? I feel that there'd be no smooth clutch transfer. Either "on" or "off" kinda feel.

The dual mass flywheel and sprung hub clutch have the sole purpose of reducing gearbox chatter, they do not effect the feel of the clutch. That is entirely dependent on the clutch disc and pressure plate.

Think about how small those clutch disc springs are. Considering how fast the disc is spinning, and how much the inner piece can rotate in comparison to the outer piece, it's what, 10 degrees? At 5k, or ever 2k RPM's, that's certainly not going to create a noticeable change in the time it takes for the clutch to fully grab. It's just there to take up the harmonics of the drivetrain, and reduce that chatter noise.

You would get extremely annoyed in a short period of time by the chatter. That's how I ended up with the good deal I got on my UUC flywheel... M5 owner bought it and used it with the OEM non-sprung disc... he had it in for bout 6 months and went back to the dual mass, because of the chatter.

And Justin's right about the take-up... that is strictly reliant on the disc and PP combination...

My m52 Sachs Sport clutch is a solid hub. Looks like I'm seriously striking out with my flywheel/clutch setup. First the dual mass flywheel wouldn't work, now I find out my clutch disc shouldn't be used with my single mass flywheel. Guess I learned my lesson, just do it right the first time.

Just find a sprung hub disc... IIRC, I think the E34 M5 is a 240mm, sprung hub disc... BRB, I'll check...

EDIT: Yes, it is, but it ain't cheap... maybe find a E36 328 sprung hub disc. There should be a few aftermarket choices, full-face or puck style.
I'm using the SPEC StageIII, which is a 6 puck, sprung hub setup with carbon graphite facing, so it's aggressive, but not neck snapping and take-up is still streetable... just FYI...

Yeah, looking back, I would have just gone with the lightweight flywheel and the same clutch you got, right off the bat. I was trying to save a few bucks by getting this stuff.

I'm debating returning the clutch and getting the SPEC, or running this one for a little while to see how bad it is. I don't think I'm going to try to find another disc... if I have to buy anything else, it's going to be the whole kit, so that I'll be done with all this. I still don't know if this PP I have will have enough clamping force.

This would be my choice, only because the PP clamping force is the unknown variable behind the V8. Even with the "best mod I've done in 11 years of ownership" removable core support, pulling the motor back out to swap out the clutch would be a PITA, when you could have just put in what you know would work from the get go...

LOL, had to throw that quote in there...

I just looked up the clutch on the web site where I bought it, it is clearly advertised as a sprung hub clutch, so I'm going to see if they'll take it back without killing me on restocking fees (and correct their website).

Hey, it was a good quote and very accurate. I told you having that core support removable was the cats meow. And that's no joke about being able to throw the motor in in 4 minutes, either...

That's a good angle on returning the clutch kit... maybe they'll not charge you anything for restocking, since it was misrepresented on their site...

I'm stuck at home with a head cold... sucks, I should be over working on the car... this thread is the best thing going for me right now, lol...
