Yes, most M60/M62 swaps will be using OBDI DME, but S62 swappers don't have that option. Swappers who want to use M62TU's and keep the VANOS have to use OBDII DME as well.

Your stories of Frankensteined M60's do have me intrigued. $500 for an M60 and $800 for an M62, both within easy driving distance could be put together to make 320 HP for $1500...

Yup, mine is done and ready to swing into the car. Plus, you get the double valve springs and double row timing chain. And you can always add the ITB's and pick up more HP...

S62 throttles do not bolt directly onto an M60... wouldn't call them cheap, either...

Meh, I've found a couple of sets for $4-500... milling adapters would be easy... or maybe go oldschool and run 4 Webers or Dellortos.. That would be kind of sweet...

That's cheaper than I would have expected for those parts. They're ~$3200/set MSRP.

The M60 intake mating surfaces are coplanar between the right and left heads. The S62 surfaces are tilted inward a little bit. The S62 throttles have two retaining studs per port, while the M60 manifold takes a stud between every pair of ports.

So you could whip up simple adapters to bolt the throttles to the head, but they'd be at different angles. If you angle milled the adapters to get the angles right, then the throttles would be out of position. In either case, the S62 plenum wouldn't fit. If you're willing to go Alpha-N engine management with inidivual filters or maybe a pair of smaller 4-cylinder plena, it could work. By then you'd have a good bit of additional effort and expense tied up in the conversion to individual throttles.

Without ALSO porting the heads and upgrading the cams, the throttles by themselves probably wouldn't be worth much extra power...

Do M60B30's and M60B40's use the same cylinder heads?

I don't believe so, or maybe it's the cams or the valves that are different. check realoem.com ?

Assuming they are geared for the same top speed in top gear, a 6 speed car will be WAY faster than a 5 speed around a track. Gearing is awesome, and its one reason why my friends S2k keeps up as well as it does.
Depends on how much power you're pushing. Shorter diffs have smaller teeth and are less durable.

If I'm not mistaken, these two V8 transmissions are geared exactly the same except for the extra over driven 6th...

You are not mistaken. First five gears are identical, sixth is just an extra overdrive gear on the G420.

Anybody with the 5speed on hand that can weight it? The 6speed is 110lbs dry.

Yeah, I'll try to weigh mine by the end of the week... it's pretty light, I'm guessing around 65lbs...

Yeah, the 5 speed doesn't weigh much.

110 is getting into T56 territory...

Yes, please weight it! I still think there is a chance that m60 swap with 5speed and ligther flywheel has a chance of being lighter than m30b35 swap!
