Okay! Finally got the trans installed, lot of dilly dallying and pretending that I don't own an e30. The car runs like shit! Currently have it in the air, no driveshaft or exhaust installed besides headers. Car runs perfectly fine idling, but if i give it any juice at all it sputters and clanks and will stall if I accelerate too much. Its got a dual mass clutch, the CPS sensors are probably? not the issue, had to drill holes in the trans for them but they line up great and I don't think it would start if they weren't working. Not really sure whats wrong :( Hopefully I missed something obvious but I cant think of anything.

Looks like there may be some wiring alteration needed for the starter interlock not mentioned there. I agree, it does sound like its starter related. One of the techs here at work mentioned I could have displaced the metal sheet behind the flywheel, but I think thats unlikely. (not that I wouldnt fuck that up, more that I dont think the symptoms match well enough.)

You can hear one of the cylinders fire off and the starter slows down.
You would expect a cyl firing to increase engine speed, not decrease. That is assuming it is firing at the right time, which is why I suggested that you have a timing issue.

Did you connect them to the correct harness connectors? They must connect to their respective connectors.Last edited by reelizmpro; 02-12-2025, 07:47 PM."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Its possible that the cps sensors need work too, but at this point im more invested in the timing. Replaced the belt in 2020 so its about time to replace anyway, pulled everything in prep to check timing and its off by a tooth. More concerning, the belt has worn a track in the timing cover and the cover between where the distributor mounts to the toothed wheel has a mirror finish. The belt is currently tensioned and very taught, when I get home today im going to take off the belt (saw the wear and went inside, called it a night) and inspect for play in the gears and then also replace the tensioner just in case. Yes, I know how grimey my engine is, its getting a new thermostat and all new crank seals and valve cover.

Motherfucker, I cannot get this car to run. Ive got almost everything i would need for a motronic swap anyway, so i might as well try that next. Im pretty sure im running a 074 ecu rn because its a prod date 10/86 325 (e), best ecu for motronic 1.1 would be a 154 orange ecu right? Already have a wiring harness and some other doodads, I would just need to buy the cps pin stuff for the front end. Shame I just had that all apart. 1 step closer to parting this peice of shit out.Bronzits Biggest Fan
