    Diff clucking on take off

So I have this really slight metallic clenching noise on the driver's side. Sounds almost like axle shaft splines are hitting splines in the hub on take off (common VW problem) but it is not. It appears that the clunk comes from the differential ourput flange. And not from the rotational motion but from moving the flange in and out (thrust load, not rotational load). I did replace sealed on the axle and that was about it. What exactly is making that clunk? It's louder on the drivers side and more muffled on the passenger side. Basically pull on the flange with in/out motion and you will hear what I'm talking about. Any ideas?

Post Edits don't work on the forum again.

to add:IIt is LSD diff from very low mileage Z3 but it doesn't sound like M-clunk issue to me that's common on M models of E46, E90 etc cars

link to the video. Again it is not up/down play clunk or the axleshaft clunk. Output shaft clunk in the thrust (in/out) motion only.. Only audible on take off from a stop.

there is a little play there but not all that much. i'm not sure that amount of play is outside of normal. i've rebuilt diffs, and axles, and had others on and off a car before but never noticed any unusual noises.

new C clip was used. Right flange has that play too but not making that metal on metal noise when I slide it in/out.
