    Mobil 1 V-twin 20w50 oil

Anyone use this? I came across a large quantity for $1.85/qt, and am wondering if it is OK to use in my m20 track car. I know it's motorcycle oil, but from what I understand it's high in ZDDP.

Valvolene VR1 is a high ZDDP oil and reasonable in price.

      It's also $4.50+ /qt, which is 2.5x the cost. I found 37 gallons of this stuff (!) for $275...

Normally I run non-synthetic, but this is even cheaper then the cheapest non-syn's... I can't turn it down, unless someone can tell me it's specifically not good for our motors. But all I can find so far is that a lot of air-cooled Porsche and motorcycle guys use this oil, and it's around $8/qt. It's also apparently one of the very few true group IV oils left.

Not here, guess I have a cheap autozone it's $2.57 a quart. Look for the API seals on the back and see if it has the same car seal or call BlackStone labs or another oil analysis company and ask the question.

Well I'm happy. Sorry you getting screwed out that way, what about a truck based oil like Shell Rotella?

rotella doesn't have great ZDDP comparatively

Mobil 1 15w50 and VR1 are both good. I thought I heard that stuff mentioned in another thread. at that price I'd buy it and do an oil analysis.

Yeah, it's reasonably priced, just nowhere near $1.87. And it's not a group IV full synthetic like the $8/qt Mobil is.

I told the guy I'll take it, so we'll see what happens.

That's insanely cheap, because my friend filled his motorcycle with 2 quarts and it costed him $10/qt at Advance Auto Parts.

V-twin has an insane amount of zinc in it. I doubt it'd really help or hurt you, so synthetic oil for $1.85/qt is a great deal.

Wasn't sure as he mentioned he would buy any conventional oils if they were cheap.

I don't know for sure but, ZDDP oils can be detrimental to automobiles with catalytics and I was told not to use them in modern cars.

M20's and S14's are not modern engines, the ZDDP is a wear additive helps older cars. Hence the phase out in oils. Another way of killing off older cars.

supposedly, but A) E30s aren't modern and B) the actual effects on a cat isn't certain. Consider how long E30 cats last - a couple hundred thousand miles, easy.

Same things I've heard. I have $50 magnaflow universal cats on my cars anyway. If they last 3 years, I'll be happy.

yeah, those magnaflow cats aren't so good. 3 years would be a miracle.
