Lighting problem with on on-board computer

The lighting on my on-board computer is very dim. You can't see whats on the screen at night and its hardly visible in the day time. Does anyone know of a way to fix this or will I have to get lucky at the j-yard?

You need to replace the light board behind the display in the OBC
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

or solder in replacement bulbs $2.49 each from radio shack
      or do led conversion.

i just fixed mine after dealing with it for a couple years. heres a like to pelican's write-up

the part, to my knowledge, can still be bought from bmw. Not the whole obc just a white plastic piece with two bulbs on it. however i have replaced just the bulbs twice now with no ill effects. go to radio shack and pick up some bulbs and solder and a soldering iron.

        the piece is this http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...FiX%2C%20M3%20

        and looks like

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the info. I'll make this a weekend project since I get payed this Friday. I might as well add on the Aux cable to my car's stereo while I am add it since I'll be working on that section of the car.

          Anyways thanks again.

you must have used some really bright LEDs, mine looks stock with 2 of whatever I had lying around.

I didn't use the high brightness ones since I would have needed a better resistor. Nevertheless I can see it clearly in day time and really well at night. Probably going to convert all of my other lights to LED as stuff starts burning out.
