if you aren't modding for a purpose, that's what modding for fun is. Being entertained by mods you don't have a reason to do. Rice mods have no real purpose either.

When i turbocharged my car i wasnt expecting to go drag it for cash or pwn the local autocross.


1) i did it for fun, i had a will and a way and wanted to try it out
2) yes, most definetly i wanted the car to be faster, which was accomplished


but even while admitting that, an argument to counter your point would be that they are putting shinny things on their car because they like the way it looks. Therefore the purpose would be to increase (in their eyes) aesthetic qaulities.

and the head unit does improve the sound and ability to play CDs....which in fact then serves a purpose

and even the borbets are wider than baskets, so they do something as well.

paint on valve cover however serves no real purpose. but to look good. i don't know what i was thinking.

EVERYTHING serves a purpose, even if it's rice. It's purpose is to appease the owner of the vehicle, who liked it enough to do it. Everyone has different tastes.

not takin a side in this debate - but this is a clear example of a riced out BMW - some people around here have apparently been studying this guys "JDM styling" approach in an effort to be different.

In the case of the ITB m20 - thats a pretty bad ass mod. I just fail to understand why you would mod a car up like that and spend all the money if not for performance gains. To each their own though - cool project

Why have your car off the streets and undriveable just to have it be cooler if it doesn't improve it at all besides a few more cool points or looks. Bleh. I guess I'm just over the whole MtechII and euro part craze, and new paint, and just about what matters - how the car handles and performs.......so all you guys' shit just seem a stupid waste of time.....

There's nothing practical about putting money into a car at all, performance or looks. For practical reasons a car has one purpose, to get you from point a to b.

So not only are you being a hypocrite because your mods are just as useless in the bigger picture as appearance mods, but you are also too dense to understand that while YOU (and many others) enjoy the performance aspect of a car, there are MANY who appreciate cars for their style, elegance, appearance.

Just because you don't care about the appearance factor does not give you any right to say that those who do are wrong, just as they have no right to tell you that you are wrong. If people weren't closed minded like you, there would be a lot less problems in the world.

This is far from Rice, this is about taking an e30 and not only making it look nice but making it perform. Just because you want to drive around an ugly car that can drive on a track does not mean the rest of us do.
