Since this has been off topic for a while now, I have to say my peace.

Robert, the people with the most track experience on r3v don't let you know it. There are guys on r3v who race all the time, but you wouldnt know it, because they dont care to whip their "fuh raze" e-penis around. A year and 5 more DE's later, you will realize how much you didn't know.

That being said, part of being on a forum is to see every one else's own personal modding and to share information, be it interior, exterior, performance, or just stereo. r3v is unique in the fact that we have people from clean stock (nando) to extreme (trent).
The forum would be a much better place if people didnt rip on each other 24/7. Instead, compliments and/or constructive criticisms should be brought out. The sad fact is that r3v is slowly turning into a child's play-place where a thread can't have a good discussion anymore. Even when the discussion is straight forward, its all hearsay and 3rd party information which is generally not true. However, thats for another time.

Jon, I have been watching your ITB project with great interest, as it would work very well on an m50 I imagine. Keep up the good work, I am glad that you are actually doing it instead of arguing about it on the internet.

The dumb part to me are threads like this: http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23395
The same people who don't want people to judge their choices are making fun of others. Hypocrites I say.
People flaming on me for disrespecting on their body kits or whatever, and then go to diss on someone's lambo doors......

and fyi, i've been hating on mods i thought were useless long before I hit the track: http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/vie...per&t=1923

                    thank you,
even though I've been on the DE high....sorry it happens. it's an addiction that stays with you. just want to do it again and again.

The off topic argument started as Charlie pointed out as he thought ITBs + turbo was impractical. And e30godz said modding for fun is cool (implying also that impractical mods are cool too), and I disagreed with him (meaning that impractical mods are worthless). Then everything got out of hand. (half because bored at work makes exagerating arguments to extremes fun)

I posted that thread. I wasn't flaming anything. If you'll read it, all it says is "never thought I'd see the day" meaning a 5'er with lambo doors, and "simply amazing."

Just thought it would get some opinions, positive and negative, as it certainly gets attention. I wasn't "dissing" anything.

                        :passes out some chill-the-f**k-out-pills:

That is sweet man. I have been working on some ITB plans for my M42 for a long time now. What literature did you read for this as far as calculating diameters & lengths? Since it seems you know your stuff, I would guess that you used some Helmholtz resonance calcs & that sort of thing.

Good pick with the MegaSquirt. I JUST finished interfacing it on mine with the 60-2 wheel on the damper & VR sensor. The MSnE code is sweet for fuel and eventually spark. Thank goodness it is open source...new features seem to pop up daily. Anyway, how do you have yours set up?

Oh as far as the "modding for fun is stupid if not practical," come on that is a matter of opinion. This palce is FOR sharing opinions and all, but please have some respect when giving them (now if you want to rip on me for buying BavAuto 8mm plug wires go ahead, I deserve it...silly me back in high school!). Regardless of the practicality of modding, it is usually a learning experience. Most of the time in life we learn from MISTAKES anyway!

I am a BF.c poster usually, and R3V has some good technical stuff as well, but cmon, this is a TECHNICAL forum. As much as it is cool to tell off someone who maybe does not know as much about cars in front of others, it really is not impressive. It just makes you look 14, and hostile.

This ITB project is really great. John V is truly an enthusiast, he is MAKING HIS OWN ITB's FROM SCRATCH for goodness sake (- the TB's themselves, but still). It is an amazing project, regardless of practicality.

Sorry about the rant. Having been around the BMW forums for a few years it just irks me to see these flame threads as it definitely discourages the older/more experienced members from posting anymore.

If I decide to stay with the m20 (it could happen) and actually mod it, this would be my ITB plan.

way to twist some words around.

                              correction.

i said modding for fun, is fun - regardless of the mod, if the owner has fun jewing his car up, its still fun for him yea? I didnt say that some kid isnt an idiot for hacking his springs and making side-pipes on his e30.

however, cool is subjective, i personally think stickers, wings and lights are pretty christian. i chose my words pretty carefully so i could avoid someone like you saying "OMG HE TINKS ALUMINUM WINGZ ARE COOL YO@!!!"

so i dont know where you're getting all this from...

i mean i dont even have a painted valve cover

What system would you go with (TEC3, Haltech, etc)? I have heard the "MS is a 'joke' S-AFC system," all too many times. There are 'better' ones out there, you just pay out the rear in many cases. The Ms is a 'work-in-progress" for sure.
